LET THE GAMES BEGIN.

Hey guys, good morning. I have put together the challenge pyramid you signed up for at the kickoff meeting and made the $10 commitment to. What I have done so far is the names are listed below along with contact info and average score. I have also listed the beginning level in the pyramid for each of you.

As a refresher, here is how it works. You can find your name on the list, look at your level and you can challenge any person on the list who is one level higher than you. After the challenge is made, you have one week to complete the skiing at a site the two of you agree on. If can be on any ski course, it can or cannot be on Thursday evenings at Vinnie's, that is up to the two of you.

An example of how this might work, let's look at Rick Cushing, our webmaster. Rick is on level 4 of the pyramid, so he can challenge anyone on level 3. Then, within a week, let's say he challenges Patty Andrews who is a level 3, the two of them meet at a course, with a boat of course, have a 3rd person in the boat to either count buoys or drive. Rick says his beginning average score is 6 buoys at 30 mph and Patty is 1 buoy at 30 mph. To determine their base level, you subtract 2 buoys from their average score, RIck would be 4 @ 30mph, Patty , 5 @ 28 mph, as the starting point. Now the skiing begins and they have 4 passes to establish their individual score, the best of the 4 passes.  So let's say Rick ends up skiing 6 @ 30 mph and then 1.5 @ 32  mph, to calculate his score, his starting base level is 4 @ 30, so the 6 @ 30 is 2 points plus the 1.5 @ 32, for a total score of 3.5. Now here comes Patty, fired up and ready to kick Rick's you know what. Patty skies 6 @ 28 and them 4 @ 30mph, her score will then be compared to her base level of 5 @ 28, so, 6 @ 28 = 1 point (1 better than 5@28) plus 4 @ 30=4 addl. points, total points = 5 for Patty, so Patty wins with 5 points vs. Rick's 3.5. In this case Rick stays at level 4 and Patty at level 3. Then one of them emails me with the scores of each pass.

Summary of the rules (always subject to amendment by the rules committee):

  1. Always have fun.
  1. New skiers are welcome at any time and will begin in the lowest level of the pyramid.
  1. Once you are challenged, you have one week to ski and submit scores to the grand pubba of the pyramid (that's me).
  1. Location of the challenge does not matter, just needs to be agreed on by the skiers.
  1. Average scores will be updated each week with actuals and follow USA Waterski guidelines.
  1. Scores to be calculated deducting 2 buoys from the average and then compare to average.
  1. Each skier in the pyramid may challenge any of the skiers in the row immediately above their respective row.
  1. It is up to the challenger to contact the challengee and make arrangements for the meeting.
  1. Rope length does not matter until the skier has completed a full pass at the max speed for their respective division, as identified by USA Waterski.
  1. The last opportunity to challenge will need to be completed by the final Thursday of the season.
  1. The top 3 in the pyramid on the last Thursday of the season will split the pot, 50% to 1st, 30% to 2nd and 20% to 3rd.
  1. Second and third place will be determined with a runoff of the two individuals holding the 2nd and 3rd place row in the pyramid.
  1. Anything else I forgot will be added when I remember.
  1. Still have fun.
